Detention and retention ponds may be required as part of a street development or highway project to control storm water runoff.  Westbrook has designed a number of detention/retention ponds for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.  Many Cities, Towns, and Villages require a detention pond as part of a development whether it is a housing development or a shopping center with vast paved parking areas.  With every development the natural area that is needed to allow the storm water to infiltrate is decreased and needs to be replaced with a proper drainage system to keep the amount and velocity of water runoff manageable.
