Andrew Knutson
Andrew C. Knutson
is the structural group project manager for Westbrook Associated
Engineers, Inc. He has designed hundreds of structures of various types
during his career. His forensic investigation and failure analysis
experience includes participating in over 75 investigations involving
damage caused by rain/hail/snow, wind, flood, improper drainage, fire,
deficient design, faulty construction, or improper material usage. Mr.
Knutson was most recently retained for failure analysis/inspection on a
collapsed Quad Graphics structure in Lomira, WI. He is familiar with all
applicable structural design codes.
In
1995, Mr. Knutson graduated from the Marquette University with a
Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and entered the school’s
master’s degree program. As a graduate research assistant he developed
research on the topic “Parameters Affecting Performance of Concrete
Bridge Decks” for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Mr.
Knutson studied specification reviews from other states, parameters
related to service life performance and a survey of practitioners. He
earned his Masters of Science degree in Structural Engineering from
Marquette University in 1997.
From 1997 to 1999, Mr. Knutson was part of the structural design team at
Graef, Anhalt, Schloemer and Associates of Milwaukee, WI. He
participated in full- and partial-depth concrete removal projects for
parking structure concrete overlays. Mr. Knutson was an integral member
of a structural inspection team for various projects such as the
Milwaukee County Stadium, the GM plant in Janesville and multi-level
timber structures in downtown Milwaukee. He also worked on many
structural projects involving steel, concrete and timber design.
In
November 1999, Mr. Knutson joined Westbrook as a structural design
engineer and was promoted to project manager in 2002. His project
experience in fall protection includes developing a fall protection
manual for a major bridge contractor that detailed the required
equipment for a changing work environment. Mr. Knutson also designed and
tested all structural components of fall arrest systems such as posts,
anchorages and horizontal safety lines for Edward Kraemer & Sons, a
major bridge contractor. Since
then, he has gained extensive experience in the design of falsework
systems, cofferdams, bridges, support towers and retaining walls. |
