May 11, 2004 - Westbrook recently sponsored the University of Wisconsin - Platteville's Steel Bridge Competition Team.

The UW-Platteville sent 23 students and 2 faculty advisors to the Steel Bridge Conference and Competition that was held February 26-28, 2004 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They competed against nine schools in the Midwest Regional Conference including: South Dakota State University, North Dakota State University, University of North Dakota, University of Iowa, Iowa State, University of Minnesota, Minnesota State University - Mankato, and Lakehead University (Canada).

The students stated that the competition was tough and they ended up placing 7th overall. They did get 3rd place ranking for aesthetics. This year they tried a new design for the bridge, choosing a cable stayed bridge, instead of the typical truss beam bridge of the past year.
